Advancing the standard of care for preterm feeding
The composition of mother’s milk has been clinically proven to support growth and enhance immunity against serious conditions such as necrotizing enterocolitis in preterm infants. MMIB has developed an innovative process to optimize the benefits of mother’s milk while also reducing risk and reliance on commercial formulas that may contribute to higher rates of NEC.
Human Milk Concentration (HMC) Device
MMIB’s novel device passively removes water from mother’s own milk without compromising its nutritional integrity, resulting in a nutrient dense, concentrated volume to support optimized feedings.
The benefit of concentrated human milk
Due to their preterm condition and small stomach size, preterm infants can only tolerate small volume feedings. By extracting only water from human milk, MMIB’s HMC device creates a concentrated formula that supports reduced volume needs for preterm feedings without sacrificing nutritional integrity.
A preterm infant’s stomach can be the size of a marble
The Problem
Preterm Infants require high nutrient, low volume feedings in order to strengthen immunity and meet critical growth milestones. While mother’s milk or Human milk is the recommended approach and provides the essential nutritional profile, preterm infants will struggle to consume the necessary volume based on their small stomach size.
Current clinical practice recommends diluting mother’s milk with cow-based or human-based formulas and fortifiers to increase nutritional density.
* Cow-based fortifiers have recently been linked to an increase incidence of Necrotizing Enterocolitis (NEC). An often-fatal condition that manifests in the preterm infant’s gut.
* Human-based fortifiers are costly and recent research has concluded that human-based fortifiers may not prevent NEC.
MMIB’s HMC device passively removes water from mother’s own milk without compromising nutritional integrity, resulting in a nutrient dense, concentrated volume that supports optimized feeding volumes for preterm infants.
MMIB’s HMC device is a resource that can help reduce risk for the patient and lower costs for the hospital NICU.
MMIB’s HMC DEVICE
Revolutionizing preterm infant feeding with our human milk concentration device that allows for optimized use of human milk in four easy steps.
Innovating in the NICU
We have developed a novel device that gives preterm infants more of mother’s own milk.
Increased Nutrient Concentration
Our device allows for a high concentration of nutrients in low-volume feedings, allowing preterm infants receive more of mother’s own milk.
Safe
The device is designed with healthcare in mind, ensuring safe and hygienic feeding practices for preterm infants.

Frequently Asked Questions
Find answers to commonly asked questions about our device and how it will be used in infant nutrition.
What is MMIB’s human milk concentration device and is it on the market?
Our human milk concentration device will be a medical device designed for neonatal intensive care units to remove water from mother’s milk to create high nutrient-low volume feeding. We are still hard at work testing the device and making sure it is optimized for all of the potential use cases.
How does the MMIB device help preterm infants?
By removing water from human milk, our device is tool that helps preterm infants receive more of the human milk.
Is the MMIB device safe tool for providing preterm infants with high nutrient feeding?
Yes, MMIB is committed to developing a product that prioritizes keeping the fragile NICU population safe. Our product is being designed and tested to ensure the product’s performance, safety and effectiveness.
